The Shelter Home Program

Shelter Care provides long-term residential treatment through the Shelter Home Program. Each shelter home is staffed with a full-time, live-in married couple and has a capacity for four children between the ages of 12 and 18.

Respite Care

Respite Care is designed to help strengthen and keep struggling families together, by planning strategic breaks for both the child and the family on a regular basis, as they participate in ongoing family counseling.

The Highlands

We provide residential treatment services to pregnant adolescent girls and their infants upon delivery. A girl may enter the program at any time during her pregnancy and will remain in residence for up to one year after the child’s birth.

“To meet the needs of the community by empowering youth and families through community mental health services that include residential and non-residential treatment for youth between the ages of 6 and 21 years who manifest emotional, behavioral or social adjustment problems. Youth may be referred for treatment as a self-referral or by the family; child welfare, juvenile justice or mental health systems. Services provided include housing; clothing; food; mental health assessments; individual, family and group counseling; community psychiatric supportive treatment; education and employment opportunities; recreation; transportation; medical and psychological care; and full time supervision.”

Private Non-profit

Shelter Care is a private, non-profit agency governed by a 12 member board of directors and licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services as a child caring agency. Funding for the program comes through per diem rates from referring agencies and contributions from service groups, businesses, local churches, and individuals.

Residential treatment program

Shelter Care is a residential treatment program for children between the ages of 6 and 18 who manifest emotional, behavioral, or family adjustment type problems. Located in northeastern Ohio, Shelter Care provides a continuum of residential care, from short-term crisis intervention, to intermediate or respite care, as well as long term care in route to independent living.

The short-term care is provided through the Safe Landing Youth Shelters. This program utilizes a professional staff model with qualified persons serving in different capacities on a 24-hour basis. The intermediate and long-term care is provided through a network of respite and shelter homes, housing between 2 to 4 children within a family setting.
